At Distillery, our amazing employees are at the center of everything we do — And they deserve to have the spotlight!

In our “Meet Distillery” series, we introduce you to some of the talented experts who help us (and our partners) bring ideas to life.

Today, we’d like to introduce Alexander, Distillery’s Full Stack Tech Lead and Architect.

Alexander, Full Stack Lead at Distillery

Tell us a bit about your background and your role at Distillery.

I’ve been working in IT for 10+ years and have experience building various applications — big and small, high load and new to the market, complex systems with many modules, and simple POCs. Formerly running the Web Department, I wanted to work more with code, so I left my management position and went back to the development side. I’m currently the Full Stack Tech Lead and Architech at Distillery!

What are your biggest strengths that you bring to your role at Distillery?

My biggest strengths include my extensive experience in various development languages and frameworks; designing an app architecture from scratch and improving an existing architecture according to product requirements and business needs; leading teams; identifying places for improving processes, and implementation of such changes.

What attracted you to Distillery?

My highly experienced colleagues, the rapid growth of the company, and the opportunity to travel to international clients are a few things that first attracted me to Distillery.

What are you learning right now?

I’m learning how to be an effective leader and how to manage teams successfully.

What do you do to get “unstuck” on a really difficult problem?

There are 2 things that help me to get unstuck:

  • I need to see the whole picture. For this, I gather as much data and information as I can.
  • I need to understand how certain algorithms are executed. I get myself comfortable with the algorithm and go through it step by step. I then build a flowchart of this logic in my head or on paper.

Mac, Windows or Linux?

I think Windows is too glitchy, so I prefer Mac despite the fact that I build .NET applications.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I like communicating with people, so I enjoy spending time with friends. I also love spending time with my family, spending time at home, enjoying the outdoors, or traveling somewhere. Lastly, I like to swim, and I got carried away with it about two years ago.
